Aaliyah

Aaliyah (born January 19, 1979 as Aaliyah Dana Haughton) was an R&B singer introduced by R. Kelly. Aaliyah was also a professional dancer, model and actress. Aaliyah became very popular during the mid-1990s.

In 1994, at the age of 15, Aaliyah released her first album 'Age Ain't Nothing but a Number'. Within months her debut album went platinum. The album featured songs such as 'Back and Forth', 'Age Ain't Nothing But A Number' and 'At Your Best'. Worldwide the album has sold over 7 million copies. At that time a rumour surfaced that the 15-year old Aaliyah had married with the 27-year old R. Kelly in Illinois. This howerver has never been proven.

When Aaliyah was 17 years old she released the album 'One in a Million'. On this album she sounded more mature and the album reached double playinum within one year. The album featured hits such as 'If Your Girl Only Knew', 'The One I Gave My Heart To', '4 Page Letter' and 'Hot Like Fire'. 'One in a Million' sold over 11 million copies.

In 2000, Aaliyah starred in the movie 'Romeo must die'. Together with Timbaland she produced the soundtrack. She contributed four songs 'Are You Feelin' Me?', 'I Don't Wanna', 'Come Back in One Piece and 'Try Again'.

In July 2001 Aaliyah released the self-titled album 'Aaliyah'. This album features songs such as 'We Need a Resolution', 'More Than A Woman' and 'Rock The Boat'. When 'Rock The Boat' received huge amounts of radio-play, Aaliyah was sent to the Bahamas to shoot the video.

Just after shooting the video for 'Rock The Boat' Aaliyah tragically died at the end of the runway when she left for Miami. All eight passengers and the pilot Luis Morales III died in the accident. It was an accident that shouldn't have happened. Investigations determined that the plane, a Cessna 402B, was loaded several 100 pounds to heavy. In addition the pilot also didn't have the right qualifications to operate this type of plane.
